No Shoes

No Shoes

This photo is emblematic of the differences in instructional space between a traditional classroom at Ball State and the environment at the Virginia Ball Center for Creative Inquiry.

This semester, I’ve led a research team of five exploring the 15 credit hour immersive learning experience. I’ll have much more to say about this large and complex ethnographic study later on in 2012; for now, it’s neat to consider the effects that instructional spaces have on learning.

It means something to work with your shoes off, to be in a space where you can make root beer floats or toss a frisbee while you think and learn.
